Dimitar Stefanov, born in 1932, is a well
known Bulgarian poet, essayist and translator.
He graduated in Czech and Bulgarian philology
from Prague University. He is the author
of more than twenty books (poems, sonnets,
essays), more than ten books for children.
He translates mainly from Czech and Slovak
languages. He is a winner of the "Racho
Stoyanov" National award for literature,
the Annual award of the Bulgarian Union of
Writers for Poetry and award "P .O.
Hvezdoslay" for contribution to Slovak
literature. He is a member of the Bulgarian
PEN centre and is honorary doctor of literature
of the World Academy of Art and Culture (WAAC).
D. Stefanov is the first of the Bulgarian
poets published haiku (The Woods of Dandelion,
