He was born in Akita, Japan, 1936. Studied haiku writing under Koji Nagata. While still in his teens, bocame a menber of the haiku magazine Bokuyoshin edited by Shuji Terayama. Member of the Riraza Groupe, Haiku-hyoron, and Unicorn. He pursues the Oriental chaos in his haiku. Currently member of the Ki groupe. He published many haiku collection including Seinen-kyo(1963), Sekinai-gaku(1967), Chusui-kan(1971), Afu-gaku(1974), Mitsubo-shu(1979), Reika(1982), Complete Haiku Collection of Koji Yasui(1993), Kuhen(2003), etc. His essays; Modoki Shokon(1974). Shozen Ikku(1977). In 2003, he won the 1st Ginyu Haiku Prize for the haiku collection Kuhen.
