Dubravko Ivancan was born in Krapina, 1931. He took the university degree at the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Philosophy. He spent three years on post-graduate studies in Germany and France.

Beside haiku, he published poetry, articles, critical studies and was a translator. He died in Zagreb, 1982 at age of fifty.
