PLAZANIN, DARKO (30.8.1957-19.1.2009)
Born in Pakrac on August 30, 1957, died on January 19, 2009, He wrote haiku longer than a quarter of a century and had been published in many domestic and foreign reviews, journals, anthologies and on the Internet. His haiku verses had been, among others, translated into Japanese, English, German, French, Hungarian, Romanian, Flamanian and Irish language. He is among the most represented Croatian haiku poets abroad.
For his haiku he had received numerous awards and had been commended repeatedly. On International Haiku Contest in Japan, on the occasion of the Day of Japan Culture, he received a Grand Prix of Japan with an invitation for tendance to the award bestoval. As a member of Matica hrvatska Samobor, he was the organizer of Samobor Haiku Meetings for 16 years and the editor of the miscellany of these yearly haiku encounters. He was member of the editorial staff of several haiku publications and was among the founders of Croatian haiku societies in the past and was selector on domestic haiku contests.
He had published four independent haiku collections and is among the authors in common billingual , Croatian/English haiku collections Sedam putova/Seven ways, Zagreb, 2000. and Novih sedam putova/Seven New Ways, Zagreb, 2003.
